Perriand, Charlotte
Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) is a visionary creator, a free, independent, sunny and non-conformist woman, and a key figure in 20th-century architecture and design. Her revolutionary pieces of furniture, such as the Fauteuil pivotant, the Chaise longue basculante and the Fauteuil grand confort, have become design icons. A committed woman, she took an interest in the issues of her time relating to housing, community facilities and the functional needs of the home. All her life, she sought to invent a new “art of living” and reaffirm “the unity of architecture, photography, painting and sculpture.
